I always dress my chi's not just when it's cold. I love to dress them up in any outfit!

Chikis just sees his clothes and runs under the bed. So, I decided not to dress him anymore, 'cause obviously he doesn't like it

O.P. doesnt mind clothes...he kinda growls when you first put them on, but he sits still, and then once the clothes are on, he does the sweetest little strut around the house, like, "i'm too sexy for my shirt".

I dress Bo & Boquet up in hats and sometimes I put a dress or blouse on Boquet. Bo always wears his cowboy hat and Boquet wears some hat with flowers. That's how they ride in a modified doll stroller when they visit the old folks at the local nursing home. They all love it, both the dogs and the residents. And they're all amazed how they sit so still and don't mind the outfits.

Radar gets dressed every now and then. Although he has his own suitcase full of clothes. He has everything from tees to sweaters to jackets, to sweatsuits, to raincoats, to bowties!

The poll doesn't cover our position which is weather related yes, but also special events and holidays. The dogs have their own closet and drawers with ensembles and outfits. Holiday costumes, Halloween in particular is great.
The boys seem to sense that they are special when wearing their clothes and react accordingly.
I got some great RAF Flight jackets from England on Ebay last month . Never seen anything like them before. Note we winter here in the high elevation of Central Oregon with sub-zero weather and much snow so warmth is important if the boys get exposed to the weather ( time between the car and the building).

Nope, I don't dress them up unless it's cold out. Or Halloween but what kind of dog likes being dressed up? My personal motto is,"Dogs are dogs, not fashion items." I don't carry my dogs in those doggy purses, it's disgusting, by doing it, you encourage Paris Hilton and other people like her to be bad pet owners.

America'sdiva9; you obviously have the right to your opinion but dogs are just little people, at least house dogs are. They love to wear nice clothes , their whole attitude changes with each outfit they have on. The boys are so proud that they dance , prance and twirl around .

I don't know who this Paris Hilton is but if she takes her dog with her how does treating your dog as a member of the family being a bad pet owner? I think just the opposite is true, we love our dogs so much we take them everywhere we go. And just as we all wear different attire to different functions , our dogs want and need to be dressed accordingly. Dog socializing class , and doggie training class, to church, the market, out to the casinos, out for a drive in the Corvette or just visiting friends , the boys really need a wardobe that will fit in.

As far as placing our dogs in a purse , well I don't carry a purse and Poncho is now 19 pounds and refuses to get in my wallet. Though both Poncho and Cisco have their own heated crates , heated sofa, and car seats the idea is to have them safe and comfortable while they are with use. When we shop we put them both , Cisco 7pounds and Poncho 19 pounds in a shopping cart. No sure I've ever seen a dog in a ladies purse, not sure where you're coming from with that comment.

I always tell people that I was born to spoil my dogs, and I make sure I do. I also think that God sends us those little innocent souls to take care of them, so I do.:)

Paris Hilton is the daughter of the owners of the Hilton Hotel chain. She has a 'teacup' Chihuahua named Tinkerbell that she dresses in huge collars and clothes. The dog is nothing more then a fashion item to her, let alone a person. She got rid of the dog while she was in jail, then demanded to get her back. I don't think that's a 'good' pet owner.

My dogs hate being dressed up, and I hate doing it to them unless it's cold out! It makes me feel like a Paris Hilton teenage wanna-be!

America'sdiva9; Thanks for the celebrity "jet set" profile. I just can not fathom why you let 'those' people influence the way you think.

I can understand your attitude toward doggie clothes if your dog hates to be confined or is uncomfortable in clothing, and /or fights constantly while you dress the dog. But I can 't reason why a person who is only a possible celebrity, because her family is rich has anyone thinking negatively about spoiling a breed of dog who's character is its strong bond with their owners . Chihuahuas are lap dogs, all they want is to be close to their humans. When the boys were a bit smaller we kept them in our jackets, and their little heads would stick out. People came out of their way to see and pet our dogs.

Our dogs , all the small dogs i.e. Manchester Terriers and Miniture Poodles, we have had over the years get excited when they are dressed. Maybe its the owners that pass this excitment along to their pets.

My dogs do hate it, I never really liked doing it because they fight constantly when I try to put on a sweater. When my male gets dressed up, does he prance around? Noooo. He's more like a bucking bronco trying to chew off the T-shirt. My female Diva, doesn't mind it as much as Froot Loop does. She'll actually wear a sweater, for ten minutes. I don't think the owner of this poll intended it as a debate poll, so everyone is entitled to his/her opinion without being questioned.

Here is where I will have a problem. I only want to put a jacket or sweater on if I am wearing one. My daughter is 11 and thinks she will be dressing the girls up. I can't see me allowing it or taking them anywhere like that.

Thankyou! I adore my dog to absolute death... so, I buy her good quality food- lots of chewy bones and keep her warm, safe and comfortable. People laughed at me when I said I wanted a chihuahua, and I had to assure them that I wasn't going to be a Paris Hilton and carry her in a bag... AND, I mean no disrespect to any other members... but there are millions upon millions of starving children in the world. Sponser a child if you don't already- and put your money to good use! My social conscience would not allow me to spend money buying a heap of clothes for my dog... it's a DOG! (a very special one, but still!)

P.S. Fair enough if you live somewhere cold- and you NEED to put something warm on your dog... but I mean, use some common sense!

In my opinion, dressing them up in dresses and hats just because the owner thinks it's "cute" is weird...lol...I only dress mine in a coat/sweater when it's cold or raining as well.

Hello

At first I thought dressing up dogs other than for the winter was just silly. It sometimes go down to -30 Celsius here with the wind chill. So we know they appreciate it. Last year was a really rough year for us as my mom past away and we had a tough time getting through it. So we went to a pet store to get the pups a little treat as we felt like deserved it, we usually let them pick out a toy and cry laughing all the way out the store to see the big huge smiles (yes our dog smile) as they exit the store with their new toys in their mouths.

On one of these trips I noticed the cutest little dress I had ever seen so I purchased and put it on one of our little baby's. I only bought it as I though it was so cute I never actually thought that she would actually like it. Only to our astonishment she loved it and got mad when I tried to take it off her, she wore it for two days straight. I still think it funny don't get me wrong but they all seem to like being dressed up! And it keeps her warm and clean too. I also like to see that it also serves another purpose too...to make other people laugh. In today's society it seems like everyone is in such a hurry we seem to forget to laugh.

We also go camping in the summer and found that the the sand and dirt got everywhere and took forever to get rid of, so this year we are planning on adding botties to their collection. (yes they all have their own wardrobes)

So it definitely got us through the year and always makes me smile when I see our pups in clothes....because their happy and warm and get spoiled by everyone they meet but also because my mom would have love to have seen them all dressed up and makes me smile to think she's in heaven smiling down on them! (Her favorite movie was all dog's go to heaven, so you all must know that she loved her dogs too!)

Thanks
Michelle

It gets cold here in the winter and Draco LOVES to go outside so sweaters will be the norm during the winter. If I had a little girl puppy I might be tempted to put cute little dresses on her but with a little macho boy I will stick to sweaters and perhaps a foot bootie when it gets really wet and snowy :)

I dress my chi. She is very sensitive to temperature and weather. She loves wearing her sweaters when its cold and if its winter or raining She wont go outside unless She has his jumpsuit and booties on.

Pet with the clothes are looking so cute,I have one puppy and one cat as a pet and I always make their dresses with the same colour and the pattern and while they are wearing the same dress they looks very cute.I have caps also for them.I like the pats with the well dress up,Because if we want the good dress up then why should they don't.they are also like our family members.
