Hello everyone,I am a newbie to this site maybe someone can give me some advice.I have a beautiful 6 month old chi her name is Gretchen Wilson.I was wanting to know when will she be fully potty trained? She still has accidents mainly peeing.I take her out after she eats and I mean as soon as shes done, she is quick to poop not even 2-3 minutes after eating,I also take her out when she wakes up after every nap and in the morning as soon as I take her out of her crate she also goes out after vigoruos playing.I know there is no way of pinpointing when she will be fully trained b/c every dog is different, but some input would be great!!!!!Thanks in advance guys:)

I know you said she is 6 months, but how long have you had her? How long have you been working on the potty training?

As long as you are consistent (that was the hardest for me becasue I'd forget) she should be potty trained in a few week if she is already 6 months. At least thats what I would think. How big is she? My yorkie is tiny and it took her a lot longer to potty train, I think becasue her bladder is so tiny. I used diapers to help aid in the potty training with her. You might want to try diapers. Most dogs will learn to hold it, rather than wet themselves. They will learn to hold it until you take the diaper off and its time to go potty outside and then be sure to reward your chi with praise(and possibly a treat;) ) when they do go outside. My dogs quickly learn to do anythign I tell them when there are treats involved, lol :D

My chi can hold it forever now. I dont make her, I actually try to encourage her to go outside more but she will refuse and stay in bed or sit in front of the couch and watch TV. She knows I wont give her a treat everytime now so I guess she sees it as a chore, lol

i have had her since she was 5 weeks old we started out by using the puppy pads but that was a no go ,i found it easier to teach her to go outside i am being consistant with her, me being a stay at home mom i am able to take her out almost on a hourly basis she is getting better its when i am out of the room that she sometimes has accidents i am learning her signal though she will sit at the baby gate i have up and start to whine that lets me know ok its time to go out although sometimes it just means she wants to play,oh yeh you asked about her size when she went to the vet 2 weeks ago she weighed 4.3 its funny because on her visit before that she was 3.4 one more question i currently keep her in one of those plastic carrier kennels at night to sleep ,it is now starting to get to small for her i was thinking about one of those wire kennels would that be ok or should i just buy her a little bit larger plastic kennel,if the wire is ok what would be the best size i dont want it to big b/c i would not want her to pee/poop in it

Walmart has large plastic kennels for cheap and I really like them. I have the larger size and I know it didnt cost very much. I think either type of kennel would be fine.
How often does she have accidents? like everyday?
It sounds like you are doing awesome with taking her out a lot so I would think she should be getting there soon. Just keep it up. I think the thing that worked the best for me is that I would follow my dog out into the back yard and wait until they went to the bathroom and AS SOON as they did I would say "good girl, good potty outside" and they could sense in the tone of my voice that they did something good. And of course sometimes I would give them treats when I said "good potty". And by doing that over and over they learned what "potty outside" meant and pretty quickly and they figured out that it made momma really happy when they did that;) .
I never tried the puppy pads with my chi, tinkerbell, but I did try to train my yorkie with those and she WOULD NOT pee on them ever. She refused. One time I could tell she was about to poop and I followed her around and put the puppy pad down in front of her every where she went to try and make it so that it was the ONLY place she could potty and she still refused to do it. So I gave up on those.

And if your girl pee's and poops in her kennel at night, you may want to get a diaper just for the evenings. Its easy, you just put a pad in it and change it out when they potty in it. That way the kennel and your girl wont get messy at night. At least until she gets better at holding it all throughout the night.

LOL, sorry I have selective listening and I guess selective reading:D . I know what you mean about getting a kennel that is too big. I think the one at walmart is a good size and should work.
