Hi all!

I'm Amy and this is my first Chihuahua, his name is Oscar (Oscar De La Huahua: pronounced wawa). He is 4 months old and so funny. He is very clingy, but I know that is normal for puppies and dogs in general.
When I brought him home, my cats were like, "What the heck!!" He has only been here two days and they are already friends.
I would love any advice you could give me. I want him to be a well adjusted, friendly guy.

I have my first question!
Oscar has gotten along fine with the cats the last couple of days. Today he started acting aggressive towards his food bowl. The cats are twice his size and total chow hounds so I understand some what. The aggression has carried on into the living room. He has started to growl and snap at them. What should I do to stop this behavior?

a month ago i was asked to take a 4 yr old male due to his owners terminal illness he needed a new home, the animal lover i am i took him, hesitantly,as i have never been around a quiet, not nippy chihuahua! he was no different! so i decided to try breaking him of all that barking and chasing you with your back turned to leave kinda behaviour, i got a spray bottle and filled it with water and when needed i first tell him shhhhh! sternly and if that doesnt work i grab my bottle and squirt him as i say shhhh, it took one evening and he got the message pretty good, he is not perfect but 99% better than at his former home. so you could try that when he acts up with your cats, i have a golden and when the chi acted aggressive towards him i used it and i no longer have that problem, just the over excited barking when company comes but it is acceptable now, with the threat of being sprayed! my problem is when he gets mad at me or i fuss at him etc. he snarls and acts like he will bite me and the more i fuss or be in control as the pack leader is to be he doesnt back down which angers me, i would never hurt the little fart so a spanking is out of the question but how do i handle it? walk away and ignore him or what? i am at a loss. i know these little dogs think they are big and bad so is this ok behaviour? 95% of the time he is the sweetest lovingest little thing giving me all his sugars and right next to me whatever i am doing, can't help but love him. anyone have suggestions please?

I think is just an adjustment situation. When we gor Chiquito we already had Kiki(the cat), and he loved her from the moment he saw her, a few days later he started being a little snappy, but only when she would get close to his belongings. After a few weeks it all dissappeard and now the are best friends, It's been a few years since all that happen. I hope by now( It's August and youguys wrote thisi July)they are all adjusted to each other. I'd like to knwo how things are going with your little guys.:)

Well.... if it's still a puppy.. you should probably begin petting him when he is eating. This will teach him not to get overly aggressive when eating his food. Try to fool around with him and also repeat the same steps when he is given a bone. Take it a away for a second and give it back that way he becomes used to it. I'm sure he is just adjusting to his new home and will turn out alright. ^.^
