I have a darling wonderful 2-year-old (neutered) male Chihuahua, Rocco. We also have a big dog, a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Rottweiler cross, who adores Rocco and is very gentle and indulgent with him. Rocco is a typical Chihuahua, he's a little cling-on and a mama's boy, which I love. I'm retired and with the dogs a lot, and now I'm thinking of POSSIBLY getting another Chihuahua, someone Rocco's size to play with him. I know our big dog would be absolutely fine with it. BUT I'm afraid Rocco would be jealous. I would be careful to continue to dote on him 100% of the time, but I am afraid he would be jealous and hurt to see me "baby" another teeny dog. Advice?

It's hard to say how Rocco would react for sure. If he's not jealous with the bigger dog, he should be ok with another Chihuahua though.
I also have a male chi that is very attached to me. About a month ago, his breeder called and wanted to know if I would be interested in female chi that she was trying to find a good home for. We were a little hesitant and worried that Hershey might get extremely jealous, but thought we would give it a try. It has worked out better than we could imagine. There was a little bit of jealously at the beginning, but he soon got over it. I work at home and so I am lucky to be with these two all day and I just made sure to give equal attention. I also had read that it was better to get the opposite sex of what you have.
I definitely don't feel guilty anymore when my husband and I have to leave the dogs home alone for an evening because they have each other to keep company.
