Maya is not officially mine although in my heart and mind she is. She was a chi that was dumped into a yard of one of my animal hospital's clients house (witnessed by a neighbor but it was too dark to see what it was the person was putting in her yard or what the culprit looked like). She brought her in to have her checked. She is on the slim side and looks as if she may have had a litter of pups at some point but not recently. The vet thought she might be about a year and a half. The client was not able to keep her so I offered to take her in with the intention of her going to my mom who would love to have a chi. Well, mom owns 4 cats and Maya will chase them if inclined to do so. My cat doesn't always run and they are both slowly learning to maintain their own space. So it was decided (by the hubby which was a total shock because he is not a Chi fan ... as I was not all that keene on Chi's either ... explaination to come later!) that she remain with us if the owners do not respond to the flyers posted in the clients neighborhood where Maya was located. She had no collar on and we actually have no idea what her name is so I named her Maya in honor of her Mexican heritage ... ie: Mayan and Aztecan cultures in Mexico. She has actually really opened up my eyes to Chi's. I have seen too many of them at work who are fear biters and not all that friendly towards other people. I have read that you have to work to make sure your Chi is people friendly as they tend to be wary or leary of strangers or anyone other than their family. So I intend to make sure she does not become one of those nippy Chi's I see on a daily basis at work. I have only one more week before she is officially mine. But she is joined at my hip and my 4 great danes love her. Two of them get a kick out of playing tug of war with her. One day I will have a picture of it!! I can't get my camera fast enough to catch it!! But she is a real doll baby and I hope that she remains MY doll baby!! ;)
Smiles!

The pictures really don't do her justice. She is a little parti colored so in pictures, you don't see the tan colors. She is a pretty little girl. She is always on the move. Which is great because her playmate, Skylar, my blue great dane (another rescue!!) has the same level of energy which is why they probably get along so well!! I have had fun so far with her here. And learning alot too!!
