Howdy;
Question comes up as to what temperature is correct or comfortable for our 7 week young Chihuahua boys? We pick them up tommorrow afternoon.

Realize that I'm located in the forest of central Oregon at 4300 ft elevation and it's snowing outside but thankfully the house has central air and heat. The boys will be together for a week or so in the same crate ( so as to lessen the transition from their momma and the two other siblings). They will in our room , next to the bed. The room temperature is set for 64 degrees.

The crate has a small Lector heating pad attached to one side wall . Pad is set for 102 degrees. There is also a padded bed placed on the crate's floor. A light fleese blanket covers all but the front door ( to hold in the heat and also ward off drafts). I use a Raytek infared heat gun to measure the crates temperature over the course of several hours . It stablizes at 73- 77 degrees , depending on how close one is to the heat pad.

This seems like a good temperature but a conformation would be welcomed.

thanks, dD

I would ask the breeder what temp the boys are used to. This way there is a smaller chance of overheating or under heating.

Seven weeks is pretty young for the pups to go home.

How are they doing?

The boys are now 9 weeks and a day. Monday will be their third visit to the vet (#1 breeder's 'bill of health' visit for all the new pups , #2 1st puppy shots) to get their second set of puppy shots and 'crate cough' shot.
The boys are 90% potty trained durning the day and have been 100% durning the night ( they sleep5 hours before requiring a potty break, then go back to sleep till 7 AM).
They chase each other around the house ( confined to the family room and kitchen areas for now). The little one, Cisco was a big surprise in that he is the one chasing the bigger brother Poncho, growling and barking till he chatches Poncho and they begin wresling. What a kick they are.
We noticed that they were scratching from time to time . Appeared to be dry skin and /or coats. We switched them over to our favored brand of dog food Avoderm ( puppy formula) . A week later now scratching and a very smooth coat.
The wife and I couldn't be more please with the way the puppys have transitioned to our life and home.

So glad to hear they are settling in and becoming a part of the family!
