I just got new long haired male Chi. This is not my first time owning a Chi or dog but this is the first time I have ever seen this skin condition. It started with red eyes and loss of hair around them. He also has a large sore in the corner of his mouth. He has just gotten a very large amount on zits on his stomach. My vet thought it was just an allergy and we tried childrens benadryl and then childrens Claratin with no help what so ever. Has anyone else ever had a Chi that has had this??? I did a little research and found the symptoms to match Flea Allergy Dermatitis and Puppy Dermatitis. Please help!

Casey when I first got him, before the skin allergy (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b375/unblurred/baby.jpg)

Poor baby!

I've never seen anything like that, but it does look like he's allergic to something. Those white bumps are common with allergic reactions. Maybe you could get a second opinion at another vet. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Good luck!

The pup could be allergic to a cleaning product in your home. Do you use Pine-Sol? This can irritate the puppy's skin and the fumes can cause the eyes to tear. Wash the puppy with baby shampoo and rub in a polysporin ointment to keep it from getting infected.

Did you change the food the pup is used to? Did he go out onto the grass? Did you find any fleas? Is it getting better or worse? Have you had the carpets cleaned, it could be the cleaning solution, or even a carpet freshener?

Best of luck in getting your baby all fixed up!

one of my dogs has the same problem and we found her to be allergic to fleas. she now gets allergy medicine from the vet. it is common in white dogs. although mine is a all white pitbull. but since the vet put her on the medicine she has got all of her hair back and looks great.

Has your baby gotten better? Did you find out what the problem is/was?
