Being that not all dog food is created (manufactured ) equally, I would like to know which brand of dog food you use and why?

Sandy is not a picky eater so she will eat pretty much all dry food. She absolutely will not eat Merrick or Science Diet though. She really likes Kibbles N Bits and I just recently got her some Iams small and toy and she seems to like that too. So I basically feed her whatever she will eat really good.

never give your dog Iams

if you care much for your dog and others then you would stop using it as iams test there dog food on beagles and other dogs

here check out this link

Cole started out on Eukanuba....seemed to like it. We got a sample bag from the vet of Science Diet, adn he isn't too fond of that.

Probably keep him on the Eukanuba.

I'm sure that you have all read the Chihuahua Health articles on the FamousChihuahua.com website concerning Chihuahua Nutrition: The Truth About Dog Food.
I have wittnessed changes in our dogs over the years as a result of diet. I happen to agree with the article as it coincides with my own experiences.
The brand we use is Avoderm along with baked chicken, fresh chicken broth , a little olive oil and vitaimin K. We find the dog's feces to be reduced and that the coat and skin are terrific. Our new boys love it as we serve it warm.

Here is a website that is really helpful in finding the right dog food that is good for your dog.

I personally feed Natural Balance Turkey Loaf and Biljac Select (kibble) My Chi's love it.

Lulla Belle was fed Pedigree Puppy wet and dry by her breeder, and our vet recomended keeping her on it until she comes back for her 1 year check. Does anyone use Chihuahua 28, ...this is what I am thinking of switching to, eventually.

Tinky is on Nutro Max: Weight Control for "overwhieght, less active dogs". She would rather sleep then go for a walk... So she has a little fluff.

My pups are spoiled, I home cook for them. They get (baked) chicken and white rice and steamed carrots. When I do buy them food, it's natural and from Trader Joe's.

Any changes to the dog food brand you purchased before the "great dogfood scare of 2007" and what are you buying now? Being that over 200 brands had recalls and the public was shocked into awareness that not all dog food is created equal, that 'natural ' does not mean that its fit to eat, I suspect that many have changed brands and manufactures.

The public learned that dog food from grocery stores was mostly fillers and rancid fat. That all the major food manufactures also produce dog food as a way to get rid of waste and bye products . Also that your government does have an agency that inspects dog food manufacturing plants but inspections only take place if there has been a complaint. Too late then , I think.

Anyways, I was reassured with our long term use of Avoderm, as Avoderm was not involved with any of the recalled dog products, so we haven't switched.

Nope, there weren't any changes in my brand. I am using Nutro Toyy breed. My sister's food got recall and it scared her. She was using Nutro High Energy.

We are currently using Eukanuba but I have used Royal Canine for chis before also. The Eukanuba has an odor but has all the Omega 3 oils etc that the chis need and they do not have to eat a lot to get the nutrients they need. Mine are not big eaters. When I switched to another brand we had itchy skin so it was back to Eukanuba and stinky breath.

I give my Chihuahuas Nutro. I've seen a difference in the color of their coat, it really makes them shiny.

We use Nutro, Lamb and Rice formula for our chi mix and I just bought a bag of Nutro puppy (also with Lamb) for my new puppy.

It's all natural with no... crap in it.

I started using the Royal Canine for chihuahuas and i switched him over gradually and he was so sick. I may actually take the food back and get a refund.

He is small, 4 pounds but long and lean. I may try him on a natural food now....

suggestions?

We just switched from Royal Canin chihuahua adult to Canidae lamb & rice. I think Clea prefers new food and her coloring is now better (from RC she was getting more brown than gray).

When we got Dozer they had him on some cheap puppy food and his poop stunk and was kinda of runny. We changed it to Royal Canin, and its been amazing. His coat is shiny, his poop is normal, and he has thrived. went from being super picky on the old food and took him forever to eat to practically inhaling it now he loves it!

Milo 07

Well......thats tons of variety  I am still confused tho. Milo eats science diet but is a nibblier, doesn't eat lots at one time, unless i soak it with some warm water. Then he'll eat whatever i put down. I am thinking of switching, so whatever i choose i should just mix with the science diet right? I'm just thinking that if i switch it up maybe he'll like it more! :)

We went through a few others that he just picked and nibbled at. Now I have to control how much he eats or he would eat the whole darn bag! He really really likes the Royal Canin, and I am pleased with how well his belly handles it and how nice a shiny he looks too.

We were feeding Bo the Royal Canine but he did not like it. He is now eating Blue Buffalo with the fish, veggies, etc. He (& the other 2 dogs) really like this.

I have tried to swith her to every Inova dry they make along with others and she HATES them arrrrgggggg!!! The Vet told me that the Inova was VERY good.

Our little guy Zeth is a picky eater. Currently he is on a combination of Merrick puppy plate and Nutro puppy for wet. We had him on Nutro puppy dry kibble but I got a sample of Royal Canine 33 kibble and wow he gobbled it up. Guess I'm switching his dry food. We also hand feed Zeth off a spoon. It's been his preference since we've had him. I guess it's all the excitement of the other dogs and the cats all eating that gets him scared to eat out of his own bowl.
I also make food for him using boiled chicken, beef liver, salmon with sweet potatoes, carrots, oatmeal and rice pureed. I make a few batches of real food and freeze them in zip lock bags.

I have been feeding my Chihuahuas Canidae All Life Stages for a long time. They absolutely love it, it's very healthy for them, they have never been sick, and it' reasonably priced, for such a High Quality Food! I will never feed my Chi's any food sold in a grocery store, retail store like Walmart, and some pet stores. I feel they are the worst, most unhealty food, you can feed your dogs. I'm sticking to Canidae All Life Stages!:)

We are feeding Canidae and our dogs love it!

Our chi, Izzy, was adopted from a rescue agency. They sent me home with Nutro dog food. Izzy became very ill and required many vet visits. We did not see any improvement in her condition until our vet recommended that we not feed her this food any longer.

We switched her to Canidae and she is doing great. Her health has improved, and her coat which was dull and dry is now shiny and soft.

On another forum I use, someone recently posted a link to a consumer affairs website which contained numerous complaints from consumers whose pets had become very ill and/or died while on Nutro food. As far as I know, nothing has been proven, but I am happy that I no longer use that food.
