Many members at my Chi membership site have been asking about the pros and cons of Chi rescue. I'd love to hear your views on this.

I have 4 chihuahuas. One from a breeder and 3 rescues. The first rescue lived outdoors in the country and was fed toast. He was 3 yrs old and less than 3 lbs with horrible fur and a terrible scar encircling his whole body when I got him 4 yrs ago. He is now a very happy 8 lb (on a diet and exercise plan)rolly polly of a dog. My second rescue was a "purse" chi who's teenage owner finally agreed to give him up to me after he was stepped on and she couldn's afford the cost of surgery to pin his leg back together. He was depressed and not socialized or house trained when I got him 3 years ago. He is now a very happy, very bouncy wonderfully behaved funny dog. I got my 3rd rescue 10 days ago. He spent 8 years in a puppy mill before he was surrendered to chihuahua rescue a year ago. He has some medical problems, most noticably bad teeth (most, if not all, will have to be pulled), heart murmur and demodectic mange, but is the sweetest little thing. He gets along perfectly with the others and I know that, with time and patience, he will be able to regain some of his natural "doggy" instinct and enjoy the rest of his (hopefully) long life.
I highly recommend rescue. Petfinder.com is a great place to start!

I have rescued two chihuahuas. The first, Penny was supposed to be spayed but it turned out she was pregnant with a 1/2 westie pup that was still born so as we had a young bitch aswell there was a bit of a conflict as our bitch was obviously top dog but Penny rescue thought she was her missing pup. They eventually had a fight but after that we just kept our eye on them and it was okay, we had her for 4 1/2 years, she was an older girl. One of our chis now is Rosie O'Grady our 2nd rescue, she was all skin and bone and had to have 15 teeth removed, but she loves everyone and is very healthy now,we have had her since she was 18 months old and she will be 9 years old in november.
