Hi! I'm new! Nice to meet you all!
I have a question I am just curious..I have two AKC chihuahuas (Peanut and Cupcake)both black with white and tan markings. They recently had their first litter one light brown with white markings, two cream with white markings all males.
I just knew when she had them they would all be like mom and dad to my surprise they weren't. Now I have buyers wondering why they aren't the color of the parents.
I am positive Peanut is the daddy lol. Wondering why they aren't the colors of mom and dad? Any ideals?
Thanks!

Yes I'd love to see pictures too!! I can understand how hard it must be to let them go.

I used to love genetics in school. Here is one of the simplest of gene explanations. Hair color genes in humans are very simple. Others are more complicated.

A mom and dad who are both brunette can have a blond haired child, because the brunette gene is the dominant gene.

If both the mom and dad and one brunette gene and one blond gene, they would have brunette hair. BUT... they each pass ONE of those hair color genes to their child.

If they both passed their blond gene onto the child, the child will have blond hair even though both mom and dad are brunettes.

This is how a momma and daddy chi can have puppies that look like neither! Our whippet breeder says they just love when the pups are born cause you never know what colors you'll get ;)
