New member with new dog

Hi my Wife and I just got a new chihuahua a couple weeks ago. We were supposed to get a baset hound but we found him for 200 from a neighbor acrross her grandmothers house. He is a bit of a trial at times and he's easier to deal with when my wife isn't around.(she spoils him) But he's learning slowly but surely....I'm finally getting him used to walking with his leash. Here are some pics.

he's learning things real fast. My wife and I give him liver treats after he gets done doing his business outside. He also knows to bug us in the morning when he has to go out, he undoubtedly learned this from out 40 lb lovable mutt maggie who pounches and nuzzles us until she goes out. I'm trying to get him to come when I call him...after I'm confident he knows to come when I call his name I wanna work on "sit"

There is a great book about training by Deborah Woods called "Training your pint sized companion" It tells how to train the dog to come when called and lots of other tricks and commands. It costs about $14.00 or you can request your library to order one so you can check it out for free.

I've seen that book recomended on other threads and sites so I've been looking for it. I decided to pick it up today after I saw your post. It was 12 bucks from barnes and noble and I've already read a couple pages since getting home. We went to petsmart today and they had it there but it was beat up..it was cheaper at b&N anyway. Speaking of going to the petstore we spent almost 90 bucks there between stuff for the dogs and the rabbits. At least I can take comfort in the fact that pets are cheaper then kids LOL
