Hello. My name is Pamela. I am adopting a Chihuahua from a high kill shelter tomorrow. She is 1 or 2 years old they are not sure. I wasnt sure what kind of dog I was looking for but knew we wanted a rescue dog. We chose Dixie because she is the sweetest little thing. Any experience we have had with Chi's has not been a great one. Friends and neighbors over the years have had snappy, growling, teeth bareing, non stop barking.. so a Chi was not our dog of choice. I cant tell you how precious she was wanting to get out of that awful kill shelter. It was like her soul was speaking to me through her eyes. I took her out and she immediatly rolled on her back and it took coaxing her to get off her back and come over to us. She does that alot. No tinkleing though. She was one of the few non barkers in the shelter even though most were going crazy. She when we walked away she ran to her bed and curled up but when she saw us she came running to the door on her cage. She let us pick her up and my hubby put her in his jacket because it was so cold outside she was shaking all over.
I am just wanting to connect with a Chi group and get some advise. We are worried she might become a barker. We live in an apt and dont want to upset the neighbors.
I have read about the breed on the net but want some real talk from Chi owners.
Thanks
Pamela

Hi Pamela, it's a fantastic thing you're doing in giving a homeless chi a place to call its own. Best wishes to you, hope all goes well. Not all chis are nasty, there's quite a few that are very friendly, I used to have a friendly chihuahua, she was the best dog I have ever owned, I hope someday I'll have one just like her. Since your new addition is already an adult and is not a barker, chances are she won't turn into one. Hope you post some pics of her.
