Hello! I am new to the forum and pretty new to the breed. I have a Long Haired Chihuahua with my fiance and she is now just over a year old.

I had some questions about potty training. It was suggested to us from a breeder that we use training pads and confine the dog to a small area, so that when she had to go, she'd go on the pad. That was a good suggestion and it worked.

Unfortunately as we expanded her area of living, she would start to go to the bathroom just at the edge of the pad, sometimes missing it completely. This summer, we've been trying to train her to simply go outside, but that is the biggest challenge of all.

She will go when we take her outside, but it seems as though she saves a little for her return inside, or just simply drinks more than her bladder can handle, so that she will pee within the hour in the kitchen, where the pad used to be.

Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to go about training her to go outside, and outside alone?

I would suggest to take her out every 30 minutes, take her for walks after she eats too, and if that doesn't work I would try the doggie door bells google it and you will see what I'm talking about. I haven't tried the doggie bells but a friend of mine did and he says that his dog was potty train in a week.!
