I am new the the chi breed, I have an Old English Sheepdog and have no idea how tiny little dogs act. My husband finally got his way and we got a 3 month old puppy this past week. He has gone poopy in his crate almost every night!! My husband is a stay at home dad so he takes him out all day long and we have only had 2 accidents during the day. I read a bunch of the previous posting where people say that they can only hold of for 5 hours, well then how in the world do any of you sleep through the night? Right now he is whining half the night and being taken out sometimes twice in the middle of the night, or I should say morning. Any suggestions? My OES was a breeze to crate train!!!!

Hun, ever since we got Chiquito, that was 6 1/2 years ago I don't know what it is to sleep thru the night. I get up twice or sometimes three times at night to let them release himself and our other dog Jerome too.
When they are puppies you really need to take them out a lot too. When Chi was a puppy I used to take him for a walk before bed so I didn't have to get up 4 or 5 times at night!

See, my problem lies in the fact that my little girl can hold it that long, amazingly, but she won't stay in her crate longer than ten minutes without whining to get out. I don't mind her sleeping in the bed with us, but my better half isn't as canine friendly as myself. :( My heart breaks when I have to put crate her because she just won't do it.
I've tried leaving a radio or tv on for her, leaving her with a stuffed animal, ignoring her so she won't think I'm giving in, everything! She just won't do it.
So I'm right there with ya when it comes to never sleeping..haha :p
